Power Business Intelligence: Data Precision Serving the Aerospace Industry

In an industrial landscape increasingly driven by digitalization and real-time performance monitoring, the ability to transform data into actionable knowledge has become an essential competitive advantage.

LOMEC Aerospace has chosen to base its growth on data analysis, developing a Power Business Intelligence project—an advanced system of digital dashboards designed to continuously monitor every aspect of company operations, from production to financial data, all the way to human resources.

From Data to Intelligence: A Project Born from Experience

LOMEC has decades of experience in precision machining for the aerospace industry—a highly technical and regulated environment where repeatability and traceability are crucial. Every process generates a vast amount of data.

Until a few years ago, company performance monitoring at LOMEC relied on manual tools: lengthy Excel reports updated once a month, requiring the manual processing of enormous volumes of data.

With the introduction of Power BI, everything changed. Data is now updated and accessible in real time, directly sourced from company databases.

This transformation not only increased the frequency of controls, but also expanded the scope of analysis: indicators that once required manual calculation are now generated automatically, offering an instant, clear view of what is happening at any given moment.

Control has become more accurate, dynamic, and continuous, paving the way for a fully data-driven management model, where decisions are guided not by instinct but by numbers.

For over ten years, LOMEC has used M.E.S. (Manufacturing Execution System) software to collect and manage this information: machine times, production stages, workloads, operational performance, part quality, and efficiency indices.

Today, this valuable digital heritage is enhanced through Business Intelligence, enabling the company to read and correlate data from across the organization.

Three Analytical Areas, One Integrated Vision

From the start, the project was structured into three key analytical domains, identified as strategic for understanding and improving overall performance: HR, Production, and Economic-Financial Analysis.

1. Production Analysis – The Digital Heart of the Factory

Through direct integration with the M.E.S., Power BI provides real-time insights into production processes:

  • Machine efficiency and workloads
  • Downtime analysis
  • Performance by job order, customer, or part number
  • Conformity and scrap rates

These analyses allow the company to anticipate bottlenecksimprove planning, and reduce downtime, ensuring maximum precision even in the most complex machining operations.

2. Economic-Financial Analysis – Up-to-Date Data for Strategic Decisions

This area focuses on economic and financial control.
By merging accounting, production, and management data, LOMEC gains a unified view that makes it possible to:

  • Evaluate job order progress
  • Analyze process profitability
  • Optimize resources and investments

3. HR Analysis – People at the Center of the Data

In the aerospace industry, product quality depends largely on the skills of the people behind it.
Power BI enables continuous monitoring of key HR indicators such as:

  • Headcount and operational roles
  • Training hours and technical updates
  • Staff specialization levels
  • Hours dedicated to non-production activities

These constantly updated data sets make it possible to plan targeted training paths, enhance internal expertise, and ensure that every resource aligns with the sector’s strict standards.

More Frequent, Deeper, Smarter Control

The Power Business Intelligence project is part of LOMEC’s broader digital transformation journey, aimed at integrating people, machines, and data into a connected production ecosystem.

This means not only achieving total control over the factory but also laying the foundation for the future—
because the next step is already clear: artificial intelligence.

Thanks to its solid data structure and advanced use of Business Intelligence, LOMEC is now preparing to introduce predictive and automated analytics systems capable of anticipating production behaviors, optimizing workflows, and further improving efficiency.

A preparatory effort built on one core belief: Only what is measured can be improved.

And in the aerospace world, excellence is never accidental—it is the result of reliable data, continuous analysis, and informed decisions.
